Physical Education

Physical Education is our most popular subject in St. Fiachra’s J.N.S.

All pupils have at least 60 mins timetabled P.E. every week, usually one session indoors and one session outdoors.

All classes are taught at least 5 different strands of the curriculum:

Athletics

Games

Dance

Gymnastics

Outdoor and Adventure

Dance

This year we are focusing on the Dance strand. The children have learned 3 Irish dances and created their own dance movements.

Even the teachers learned some dances

Fundamental movement skills

All teachers use the “Move Well, Move Often” programme when teaching the Fundamental Movement Skills.

These are the  fundamental movement skills we are focusing on this year in St. Fiachra’s Junior School:

Running

Hopping

Throwing

Catching

PAWS

Second classes will be learning about the Primary Aquatics Water Safety (PAWS) programme.

P.E. Equipment

We have a wide variety of P.E. Equipment which is kept in our P.E. storage room.

We purchased new equipment this year thanks to funding from the Parents’ Council.

P.E. Homework

P.E. Homework is given once per week related to the strand that we are working on at that time.
