St. Fiachra’s Junior National School

History

St. Fiachra’s Junior School was opened in 1976.

It is a co-educational school with classes from Junior Infants up to Second Class.

The school building consists of a main one-story building which has 16 classrooms, a staffroom, offices and a general purpose hall; a two story building which houses 5 classrooms and the remaining classes are accommodated in prefabs, which also contain the rooms for Special Educational Needs classes.

We share our grounds with St. Fiachra’s Senior School with whom we have a great working relationship. Adjacent to the school is the Church, the Parochial house and the Pastoral Centre.

 

Staff

Our staff consists of our Principal, our  Deputy Principal, 25 class teachers, 10 Special Education teachers, 1 teacher for English as an Additional Language, 8 inclusive Support Assistants,  Support staff School Chaplain, 2 Secretaries, our caretaker and 3 cleaners.

The school operates within regulations laid down by the Department of Education & Skills (DES), upon which is depends for funding and resources. School policy must have regard to the funding and resources available.

 

Curriculum

The school follows the curricular programmes prescribed by the Department of Education & Skills.  The curriculum is child centred, integrated and activity based.

It covers the following subjects:  Gaeilge, English, Maths, History, Geography, Science,Religion, Music, Visual Arts, Drawing, SPHE, Physical Education and Drama.

The creative and artistic talents of the pupils are nurtured through the curriculum and through the use of visiting experts, class trips and competitions. All classes use ICT to access the curriculum and improve their computer skills.

10:20am – 10:30am Little Break 

12:00 noon – 12.30pm Lunchtime   

 1:30pm Junior and Senior Infants finish

2:30pm First and Second Classes finish
