Grandparents Day!! We had a very exciting day on the 7th of February when we welcomed our Grandparents into our classroom. It was great to hear stories which our Grandparents shared with us – they were very interesting and it was great to compare with school nowadays. Thanks to everyone who came to visit our classroom and to everyone who tool the time to complete the Grandparent questionnaire during the.
Green School Visit As part of Green School Week, we had a visit from ‘Mouse’. Mouse taught us all about animals that live in water. We learned lots of interesting facts! Mouse also brought samples of pond water for us to investigate.
Making Butter As part of Science week, we predicted how we could make butter! There were some great predictions and we tested out the experiment. We then got to enjoy our homemade butter on crackers.
Physical Education Our strand in P.E. at the moment is Gymnastics. We have had lots of fun practicing rolls (sausage roll, pencil roll and tuck roll) and we have been practicing lots of different balances. The children in room 19 have been very creative coming up with sequences which included balancing, travelling and a roll of their choice!
Santa Dash!! We celebrated the Christmas holidays again this year with our annual Santa Dash!! It was great to see everyone participating in the dash around our school Slí na Sláinte. There was great excitement when a special visitor arrived…take a look at some pictures from the Santa dash!
Autumn We created Autumn videos showing signs of Autumn we found during a nature walk. We took pictures on the iPads and added voiceovers and text to create short films….enjoy!
Fighting Words On Monday the 16th of December, we visited ‘Fighting Words’. ‘Fighting Words’ is a writing workshop located near Croke Park. Our class wrote the beginning of a story called ‘2019 Madness’. We were very lucky to meet Roddy Doyle when we were there also.
Sam Maguire!! On Monday the 16th of December, we welcomed Evan Comerford to our class. Evan brought the Sam Maguire cup for us all to see. Well done to the Dublin team!!
Christmas Carol Service Our Christmas Carol Service took place on Friday the 13th of December in the Church. It was lovely to see so many of our family and relations there. Thanks for coming everyone!
Christmas Boxes This year, our school collected lots of Christmas boxes to send to other children. Mrs. Carberry asked each of the classes to estimate how many boxes our school collected. We guessed 368 boxes. In total, 437 boxes were collected in our school.
Diwali On November the 21st, we had a visitor in school who taught us some Diwali dancing and told us the history of Diwali. We put on a display at the end of the day with all the second classes. It was great fun!
Procedural Writing During the months of November and December, we have been working on procedural writing. As part of this, we made fruit skewers. We spoke about the procedure and created the skewers using our favourite fruits! They were delicious!
Science Week During the 11th – 15th of November, we celebrated Science Week! As part of this, we went to a ‘Junior Einstein’ workshop in the school hall. We made ooblek, created electricity and also created clouds of smoke! It was great fun!
Fire Safety Following fire safety at Hallowe’en, we researched the job of fire safety officers. It was very interesting. We built fire engines using recycled materials…they were very creative! Take a look….
Maths Week Maths Week Ireland was celebrated from the 12th – 20th of October. There was lots of different events planned in school including ‘Maths trails’, ‘Shape Hunts’ and ‘Maths About Me’ quizzes. We had lots of fun looking for Maths in our school environment.
Sponsored Walk We had a lovely day when we went on the school sponsored walk. We walked all around the park and saw some of our classmates houses on the way. Well done everyone!
Hallowe’en We had a great time dressing up for Hallowe’en in Room 19. We had a disco in the hall and did some great dancing to some spooky songs!
